Welcome to Health UP!

When I is replaced by we…
even “illness” becomes “wellness.”

The idea of getting in shape or living a healthier life can be overwhelming at times. What’s the best way to exercise? What am I supposed to eat? How do I deal with stress? At any given time, there are a countless number of “experts” out there putting forth the one path to perfect health. Some of these have merit. Some of these are scams. How is one supposed to navigate through it all?

There is no one answer for all people. For some, getting healthier may mean controlling high blood pressure or reducing their risk of diabetes. For others, it might be a performance goal like improving their 5K time. For others, it might simply be sleeping better or having more time for family and friends. Whatever your goals are in your wellness journey, some combination of physical activity, healthier eating, and social connection will certainly have a positive effect.

Health UP and the Y in Lino Lakes are both focused on meeting you where you are. We want to be a resource to help you find your starting point and chart your course from there. If you know you need to eat healthier, take that first step. It could be as simple as looking for healthier menu options at your favorite restaurant, visiting a local farmers market, or planning meals around seasonal produce. If you know you need to exercise more, find ways to do that. Of course, we’d love to see you at the Y! Our members enjoy free consultations and classes ranging from Arthritis Water Exercise to 2-hr cycle classes. We also have small group and personal training. However, there are myriad other avenues for becoming more active. Something as simple as walking on a regular basis has huge benefits. Take advantage of the beautiful area trails and parks to walk, bike, ski, or snowshoe. Get involved in one of the run/walk/bike events that support such worthy causes as the fight against cancer or MS.

And here’s what I think is so important. Look at the potential intersections here. In joining that fitness or cooking class or doing that fun run, how many people might you meet that can share your journey? How much support and shared knowledge can come from getting started on your path to wellness? A lot – let’s do it together.

So, thank you for visiting the Health UP website, and please visit frequently to get involved and improve the whole-life well-being of yourself and your community.
